The original Modra’s ceramics is well known by its unique shape and colors. It decorates a lot of houses and public places, not only in Slovakia, but also all over the world. The Habans settled in Modra in the 18 th century and brought the knowledge of manufacturing of ceramics. The ceramic workshop was founded in 1883. Modra’s ceramic production was famed by mane generations of craftsmen and performers. Probably the best-known national craftsman Ign á c Bizmayer, who’s artistic works we can find in his gallery situated in the historical building of old bastion. Modra’s ceramists are working in some small private workshops at the present, but the major production of Modra’s ceramics still stays in the cooperative – Slovak Folk Majolika.
